Presenter: Michael is NETA’s Director of Certification. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a B.S degree in Kinesiology and a M.Ed. degree in Applied Kinesiology. Heart rate variability (HRV) is a biological marker of how well the autonomic nervous system is working, and is an indicator of physiological health and risk of chronic disease. Understanding the importance of a well-functioning autonomic nervous system and how to decrease risk of chronic disease is an important tool for fitness professionals to better reach participants and clients. This one-hour workshop will differentiate between heart rate measurements and variability and provide an understanding of the importance of this biological marker.

Facilitating a healthy fascia is a trending focus for many fitness professionals. But in what ways – if any – is the fascial system affected by a yoga practice? This one-hour workshop will provide a review of what we know of the fascia with current research, and discuss how yoga can enhance functionality of not just specific muscles and joints, but kinetic chains through targeting the fascia that interconnects the body.

Fitness professional working with an older adult population face unique programming challenges when working around orthopedic issues associated with aging. This workshop will provide a breakdown of common orthopedic conditions to include rotator cuff and shoulder impingement, postural changes and neck and back pain, hip and knee replacements, meniscus tears, and plantar fasciitis. Exercise recommendations for management of the conditions and prevention of future injury will be provided, with hands-on application and case scenarios.

Saturday, October 12
Our intensive, two-day Yoga Foundations workshop provides hands-on experience in teaching beginner yoga formats through a breakdown of 20 poses focused on alignment, safety, variations and breathing techniques. In addition to the basics of class formatting, you’ll discuss yoga history through exploration of the 8 limbs, learn the anatomy and physiology of the nervous and respiratory systems, as well as discover ways to encourage and motivate your participants through verbal refinements and inclusive cuing. This certification will provide two sample beginning yoga classes as well as time for practice under the supervision of an experienced yoga teacher.
*Yoga Foundations can be taken as a stand-alone specialty certification and/or can be taken as part of the 200 Hour Yoga Program approved by Yoga Alliance.
Presenter: Deanna Reiter started coaching in 1996 and became certified as a personal trainer in 2004. She has a B.S. and Master’s degree, and her certifications include: USATF Coach, ACE Personal Trainer, Group Exercise, Pilates, Yoga, BOSU and Kettlebell. She has been a master trainer with NETA since 2005. Deanna has written many NETA home study programs including: Dancing with Divinity, Movement through the Chakras, Running A to Z and the Ultimate Guide to Wellness.

Each year, the popularity of Pilates grows as more people become aware of the incredible benefits of this unique form of exercise. If you always wanted to learn how to teach Pilates but never knew where to learn the tools necessary to be an effective and knowledgeable instructor, NETA has the answer.
This specialty workshop not only introduces the fundamental principles of Pilates, but teaches you how to apply them through 33 different exercises. In addition to the fundamental principles of core stabilization and posture alignment as they apply to basic Pilates mat work, you’ll also learn effective ways of cuing, correcting form and applying modifications.

NETA’s Personal Trainer Certification Review Virtual Workshop features up to 12 hours of interactive lecture and discussion. The virtual review workshop provides an excellent opportunity to put the final touches on your exam preparations and to interact with one of NETA’s well-qualified national presenters.
Virtual workshop registration includes the Premier Plus Study Package (The Fitness Professional’s Manual, Workbook, Practice Exam, and Online Review Modules) and the computer-based Personal Trainer Certification Exam administered via live remote online proctoring with ProctorU.
To successfully prepare, NETA recommends that candidates devote an appropriate amount of time (e.g., at least 30-45 days) and effort to self-directed study prior to attempting the examination.

Love Pilates, but lacking a reformer? Wall Pilates is a reformer-based Pilates workout utilizing body weight the resistance of the wall to tone muscle and improve flexibility. A review of the basic principles of Pilates will be put into practical application on the wall, with discussion on essential equipment and space for setup, programming of an appropriate warm-up and cool-down, and safe and effective modifications for special populations.

More than 1 million women in the United States experience menopause each year. Many of these women find that many of the strategies they used to use to lose weight and maintain fitness are no longer working. In this session, participants will learn the science behind some of the most bothersome menopause symptoms and how to use evidence-based strategies to minimize weight gain, sustain bone density, and manage mood.
